They say radio’s a dying business. That might be a slight overstatement, but it’s definitely at a fancy restaurant, choking on a steak.

I mean, radio IS cool if you like hearing the same fucking songs over and over again. I swear to god, KROQ (Los Angeles biggest rock station) plays “Last Resort” by Popa Roach like the song is a brand new single — and don’t forget about “Smells Like Teen Spirit” every hour, on the hour. Have you ever heard of that tune? It’s brand new.

So yeah, it’s dying, because it’s unbearable. And if you know anything about the biz, it’s largely because huge conglomerates (Clearchannel) have bought out every last independent radio station in the country…and they chose their tight-as-a-virgin playlists at the corporate level. DJs can’t even chose the songs they play any more.

Which is why I found this little audio clip of a Radio DJ in Jacksonville, Florida to be so interesting. The dude finds out he’s going to be laid off at the end of the week, and beats them to the punch by quitting on air, in pretty glorious fashion.

Hey DJ, to those about to quit, we salute you…
